Mozart (1756-1791)
Description:
After the highly successful Beethoven Piano Concerto Zycles, the virtuoso composer Folkert next tackles a collection of Mozart's piano sonatas. This album contains two works composed around 1775 with strong Baroque influences, and two works written in 1778, the year of Mozart's mother's death. The second work is said to be strongly influenced by Haydn, and the second movement, Adagio, has a lyricism reminiscent of his later works. The second movement of No. 3 also has a wonderful, calm atmosphere. No. 8, written in an unusually minor key, and No. 13, with its technical style, are also works full of melodic beauty typical of Mozart. Folkert's performance makes full use of the sound of the modern piano, giving Mozart's sonatas a poetic expression as if they were works from the Romantic period. The exquisite dunamics and the slow tempo of the rich singing give the sonatas a new feel that is different from the period interpretations of the past. Naxos Japan
