Description:
This is Holger Schukai's fourth solo album (released in 1984), his first since "To the Top of Normal" in 1981. As on the previous album, the band was joined by ex-Kan ally Jaki Liebzeit (ds) and Connie Plank (synth). The title track ("The East Is Red") is a sampling of a Polish military band's rendition of the national anthem of the People's Republic of China, with Liebetzeit's drums and Plank's synths added to create an exotic, eerie, and humorous finish. Other tracks include the aptly named "Michy," featuring Japanese vocals by a female singer named Michi, "The Photo Song," a light pop song covered by Kahimi Karie, and "Collage," with its cool drumming by Yaki Liebetzeit, An experimental and pop masterpiece.
