The Breakaways (1960's)
Description:
<The 33rd issue of the "60's GARAGE ROCKIN' OLDAYS" reissue series, supervised by Jimmy Masuko and presented by All Days Records, features the British-style R&B punk of The Prisers and The Kiwi Rock 'n' Roll Garage Bands! In 1964, the Beatles' popularity exploded in New Zealand and many garage bands came to life. While the excitement was building, the wild British R&B influence accelerated with the Pretty Things tour, and the Presidents, Chants R&B, Larry's Rebel, Dark Ages, and others were inspired to play British-style R&B punk in idyllic New Zealand. One of these bands was the Breakaways, who were based in Wellington. Most of their repertoire consists of covers, but their speedy and tight performance is full of garage feel. The Blakaways are a fast and tight band with a garage feel, and I hope you will enjoy their fast-paced, kiwi rock 'n' roll garage music along with the Prisers.Commentary: Jimmy Masuko
