Bach's image, which has the fullness of an orchestral symphony and is in tune with Barenboim's own breathing, Barenboim is the type of artist who shows his true value in works that are large in scale and require extraordinary expression, and in "The Mean Rule" he gives a performance that is full of expressive enthusiasm. The approach taken by Barenboim here is very different from that of harpsichord playing, and he thoroughly utilizes the unique characteristics of the piano, making full use of the pedal and his ever-changing touch to realize a deep, beautiful, and contemplative interpretation of Bach on a generous scale.
