First time using slang is an exercise in prioritizing spontaneity, both in its conception and subject matter. Instead of diving straight into their next full-length album, Equipment wanted to make an urgent statement on the band’s direction instead of waiting out the whole “album release cycle” song-and-dance.

With that mission statement in mind, the band leaned into the running joke of their name’s un-searchability. The album art was taken by a listener-turned-collaborator and posted on Twitter as a joke tracklist for an EP. Little did they know the band would be in a position to say: "sure, why not?"

Vocalist Nick Zander says: "I wrote what I believe to be some of my most vulnerable songs to these three titles as if they were high school writing prompts. For example, "GLOVES" sounds like nonsense, but feels like my truest portrayal of the sentiment that, femininity, softness, and the general challenging of gender norms is awesome and, more importantly, vital to any society. Since it was so off-the-cuff, start to finish, it really does feel like our “first time using slang,” and I hope these three tracks communicate that slang, or living fantastically, is important".

Tracklist:

  1. GLOVES
  2. LAB COAT
  3. FACIAL PROTECTION
