Verdi (1813-1901)
Description:
This disc contains highlights from three of Verdi's operas that for various reasons have been translated into French. Nabucco" was first performed at La Scala in Milan in 1842 and was a great success. It was performed in many countries outside of Italy, and this album contains the Diverdissement for orchestra that was inserted in the third act when it was performed at the Théâtre de la Monnaie in Brussels in 1848, using a recently discovered score. Macbeth" was first performed in 1847, and Verdi made extensive revisions when it was performed in France. The aria sung in French is a novelty. The number from "La Trouvère" is also a divertissement that was inserted when it was performed in Paris. The melody is a local Parisian one. Macbeth" and "La trouvere" are excerpts from a previously released recording made at the Verdi Festival in Parma, conducted by Roberto Abbado. This is the first release of "Nabucodonozole". This is a rare Verdi recording. Naxos Japan
