d'Indy (1851-1931)
Description:
Vincent d'Indy studied piano from an early age and became a composer under Franck at the Paris Conservatory. He not only wrote many orchestral works influenced by Franck and Wagner, who was also popular in France at the time, but also founded the Schola Cantorum, a comprehensive music school. He also founded the Schola Cantorum, a comprehensive music school, and trained many pupils, becoming a leader of French music. This album contains three pieces: "Medei", a dramatic music based on Greek mythology; "Suite Caradec", which incorporates elements of folk music; and "Salvia no Hana", which features a flower fairy. All of these works depict magnificent stories with delicate sounds. Of the three, "Salvia no Hana" depicts a tragic love similar to Wagner's "Tristan und Isolde," and is characterized by its rich music that makes extensive use of chromatic progressions. Enjoy these in a superb performance by Darrell Ann, winner of the Besançon International Conducting Competition. Naxos Japan
