Gary Peacock Trio
Description:
This is the first trio work in two years by Gary Peacock, who has played bass in legendary piano trios such as Paul Bray, Bill Evans, and Keith Jarrett. Peacock made his ECM debut in 1977 with the leader's Tales of Another. It was Peacock's trio recording with the same members five years before Keith Jarrett created the Standers Trio with Jack DiJohnette. At the turn of the 21st century, Peacock's main activities were with this trio, pianist Marc Copland and drummer Joey Baron and released their first ECM work, 2015's Now This, to critical acclaim in both the US and Europe. According to The Guardian, "a gripping and engaging work." All About Jazz said, "The members are always playing in the moment, listening, reacting, and knowing when to play and when not to play." All About Jazz described the band as "a group of musicians who always play in the moment. The trio's pulling power is a muscular, poetically constrained virtuosity that shines through on five originals by Peacock, Coplant, and Barron, as well as dark but atmospheric improvisations on "Blue in Green" and "Spartacus," which also recall Bill Evans' masterful performance. The dark but atmospheric improvisations on "Blue in Green" and "Spartacus," which recall Bill Evans' famous performance, shine through.
