Exposed wire splices, corroded connectors, and poorly sealed cable ends are among the most common causes of electrical failures in automotive, marine, and outdoor installations. Whether you're a professional electrician, a marine technician, or a hands-on DIYer tackling a wiring repair, you need a heat shrink solution that does more than just insulate — it needs to seal.
This 4:1 adhesive glue-lined heat shrink tubing features a dual-wall construction: an outer polyolefin sleeve with a 4:1 shrink ratio, and an inner thermoplastic adhesive layer that melts during shrinking to form a watertight bond around the substrate. Available in pre-shrink diameters from 4mm (≈5/32") to 52mm (≈2"), sold per 1 metre length, in black.
Typical applications include automotive wiring harness repair, marine cable sealing, outdoor junction box connections, and industrial connector strain relief — anywhere a secure, moisture-resistant sleeve is required.

Select a pre-shrink diameter that is slightly larger than the widest point of the object you need to cover. For example, if your cable or connector measures 5mm across, choose the 6mm pre-shrink size — after heating it will shrink to approximately 1.5mm. As a general rule, the pre-shrink diameter should be 10–20% larger than the substrate diameter to allow easy insertion before shrinking.

A 4:1 shrink ratio means the tubing shrinks to one-quarter of its original diameter when heat is applied. This is significantly more than standard 2:1 tubing, making it the right choice for covering stepped connectors, irregular shapes, or applications where you need the tubing to start large (for easy insertion) and finish very tight (for a secure seal). It is commonly used on battery terminals, large automotive connectors, and marine cable glands.
Yes. The inner adhesive layer melts during shrinking and flows around the substrate, sealing out moisture, water ingress, and mild chemical splash. This dual-wall construction is generally suitable for outdoor wiring, marine cable connections, and underbody automotive applications. For fully submerged or high-pressure water exposure, we recommend confirming the specific IP rating requirements with us before ordering.
The thermoplastic adhesive creates a firm mechanical bond with the substrate surface, providing good strain relief and pull-out resistance at the connection point. In most cases, once applied and cooled, the tubing is not intended to be removed without cutting. If you anticipate needing to access the connection again, plan your installation accordingly — use a shorter sleeve or position the tubing so it can be cut away cleanly.
A heat gun is strongly recommended for even, controlled shrinking. Set the heat gun to approximately 120–150°C (248–302°F) and move it steadily along the tubing to avoid hot spots. Open flames (lighters, torches) are generally not recommended — they can scorch the outer wall, create uneven shrinkage, and may not fully activate the inner adhesive layer. For small-diameter tubing in tight spaces, a focused nozzle attachment on the heat gun helps direct airflow precisely.
Yes. Glue-lined 4:1 heat shrink tubing is widely used in automotive wiring repairs, battery terminal protection, and harness sealing. The adhesive inner wall bonds to wire insulation and connector bodies, providing both moisture protection and mechanical strain relief. It is typically compatible with standard automotive wire insulation materials. For high-temperature engine bay locations (near exhaust components), verify the operating temperature range is sufficient for your application.
Each unit is sold as 1 metre (≈39.4") of tubing. You can add multiple units to your cart to get the total length you need. The tubing can be cut to any shorter length before application — simply use scissors or a sharp utility knife for a clean cut.
