Five carefully selected historical oboes bring back to life the "excitement of the time of composition"! When one thinks of oboe quartets in which an oboe is added to the string trio, Mozart's works are the first that come to mind. In fact, there were unexpectedly many examples of this type of music from the Classical and Early Romantic periods. Many of these works, which have been buried in the valley of history and forgotten, only show their true value when played on the instruments of the time that the composers knew. Bernardini, who has been in continuous pursuit of historical oboes, has focused his attention on the original 18th- and 19th-century oboe instruments that remain in various parts of Europe. With a carefully selected program, he has explored the true face of oboe quartets created in the period before and after Mozart. He is surrounded by his daughter Cecilia Bernardini, her partner Van den Münckhoff, and viola player Simone Jandl, all of whom are excellent musicians, and the strings and bows are also original. The stringed instruments and bows are mainly originals from that time.The works of important composers with very few existing recordings, such as Dresden's renowned cellist Dotzauer and Budapest's Dorzhetsky, are not to be overlooked.
