Glazunov (1865-1936)
Description:
Born in 1986, Nikolai Medvedev is a pianist who studied at the Rimsky-Korsakov Music Academy and the Gnesin Music School, and studied under Vladimir Tropp and Nikolai Petrov, and has won numerous competitions, including first prize at the Balakirev International Piano Competition. His debut album (QTZ2143), released in 2021, features works by Rachmaninoff, Mettner, and Tchaikovsky, and was praised by BBC Music Magazine and other music magazines for its flexible touch and clear high notes. This second album is a collection of sonatas by Glazunov, who established his reputation as a leader of Russian music in the new era after great musicians such as Mussorgsky, Borodin, and Tchaikovsky passed away at the end of the 19th century. The sonatas were composed in succession, and the contrast between the two sonatas, written in opposite tonalities, B-flat minor and E minor, is skillfully portrayed and interesting. Tokyo M-Plus
