The 1769-ARM is a specialized Address Reserve Module designed for the Allen Bradley Compact I/O system, compatible with CompactLogix and MicroLogix 1500 controllers. Its primary engineering purpose is to occupy a physical slot in the I/O bank to reserve backplane addressing space. This prevents the controller from shifting the I/O map when a module is removed or before a planned expansion module is installed.
By using the 1769-ARM, engineers can maintain the integrity of the system configuration and controller logic without the need for reprogramming when physical hardware changes occur. This module is essential for modular machine designs where future I/O requirements are anticipated but not yet implemented.
The 1769-ARM serves a structural and logical role within the backplane, drawing minimal power and requiring no external field wiring.
