Description:
Pietro De Maria was born in Venice in 1967. After studying at the National Conservatory of Venice, he went on to study at the Geneva Conservatory. He won the Critics' Prize at the International Tchaikovsky Piano Competition in Moscow in 1990, the first prize at the Geza Anda International Piano Competition in Zurich, and was awarded the Mendelssohn Prize in Hamburg in 1997, among other international recognitions. He has performed with many renowned conductors including Myung-Whun Chung, Gianandrea Noseda, Sándor Weg, and Yutaka Sado. With a wide repertoire ranging from Bach to Ligeti, he was the first Italian to perform all of Chopin's solo works in six concerts, and recorded all of Chopin's solo works for Decca in Italy, as well as the Bach Mean Clavier and Golteberg Variations. All were highly acclaimed. In this album, he performs his specialty, Chopin's piano concertos, backed by the Orchestre de Toscana conducted by Daniele Rustioni. The lyrical melodies are sung with great care. Naxos Japan
