Beautiful Victorian sterling silver vesta case hallmarked Birmingham 1887 and with the makers mark CC for Colen Hewer Cheshire of Northampton St, Birmingham.
The vesta case has beautiful leaf engraving and a flourish of initials (TJB) on one side. It looks fabulous worn as a pendant or locket.
Vesta Cases were small portable boxes used to carry vestas (short matches) and were carried by men and women alike. So called after the name of one of the early makers (which was taken from the goddess Vesta, a Roman deity of fire and the hearth), they came into use around the 1830s and were produced extensively between 1890 and 1920.
The vesta case measures 5cm x 2.5cm (including the ring).
This unique piece of jewellery may have signs of wear due to its history. It is beautifully imperfect and should be treated with love and care. This vesta case is in great antique condition.
All Vonk Jewellery is presented in a gift box and pouch with luxe ribbon. If you would like a gift message included please message me at checkout.
Please note this listing is for the vesta case only. Chains and pearl necklaces are available in store.
