The 3rd Armored Division, nicknamed "Spearhead", was a prominent United States Army armored division active during World War II and the Cold War. Activated in 1941, it served with distinction in the European Theater, notably participating in the Normandy landings, the rapid advance across France and Belgium, and the Battle of the Bulge. After the war, the division remained stationed in Germany as part of the Cold War forces. It was deactivated in 1992.
