A beautiful vintage or antique Afghan Baluch hand-knotted wool prayer rug featuring a rich madder red field framed by bold geometric borders and intricate tribal motifs. The distinctive prayer niche design gives the rug a strong architectural presence, while the deep saturated reds, ivory highlights and small golden accents create a warm and highly decorative palette.

Hand-knotted by Baluch weavers of the Afghanistan–Khorasan region, this rug displays the compact drawing, fine tribal geometry and lustrous wool typically associated with older Baluch weaving traditions. The field is decorated with rows of small guls and tribal motifs, while the broad ivory border provides striking contrast against the darker ground.

The rug has a pleasing age-related patina and retains good colour throughout. There is wear consistent with age and use, visible in the photographs, adding to the authentic character of the piece. The wool remains soft and attractive, making it equally suitable for use on the floor or as a decorative wall hanging.

Hand-knotted entirely in wool, this is a genuine tribal weaving dating to the early–mid 20th century, with a reasonable possibility of being around 100 years old. Its compact size makes it ideal for an entrance hall, bedside, study, reading nook or layered textile display.
