Martha Arquero (1944-) is a well known Cochiti pueblo artist best known for her "frog storytellers" like this one. She is the daughter of Damacia Cordero, also widely known for figurative pottery, as are her sisters Josephine Arquero and Maria Laweka. I love traditional Cochiti pottery for its bold black against cream painted patterns, which this little frog, and the fly on its tongue, incorporates in a contemporary and I think very charming way.
