The surface is brown or dark brown, slightly shiny, with irregular shrinkage wrinkles. The outer peel is very thin, brittle, and easy to fall off. The middle peel is thicker, dark brown, loose and fragile, and swells into a sponge-like shape when exposed to water. The smell is slight, the taste is light, and it is sticky when chewed.

Nature and flavor are sweet, light, and cool; it belongs to the lung meridian and large intestine meridian.

Efficacy characteristics:
