Weleda Amara Bitters help to relieve indigestion, heartburn, nausea, loss of appetite and other acute stomach discomfort, eg feelings of bloatedness.

Amara Bitters tone any digestive weakness by stimulating the digestive processes. By stimulating gastric juice secretion, and bile, they tone the digestive organs, encouraging a stronger and complete digestion. They soothe nausea, and an irritable or nervous stomach, Amara Bitters are also excellent for poor appetites, even when they are caused by tension, by stimulating the appetite and helping induce a regular peristaltic action. Bitters improve circulation in the abdominal organs.

For effectiveness, the bitters need to be used regularly, without disguising their taste. They can be taken in water.

Use to treat Gastro-Oesophageal Reflux Disease (GORD), which causes daily heartburn in 4-10% of Western people and significantly reduces quality of life. GORD is caused by prolonged periods of relaxation of the lower oesophageal sphincter. The continued exposure of the oesophagus to gastric juices is associated with weakened oesophageal flushing and hiatal hernia. Achillea millefolium (Yarrow) Has a bitter and astringent action for acute and chronic gastritis, dyspepsia and general indigestion.

Artemesia absinthium (Wormwood) A bitter that stimulates appetite and digestive secretions and has a calming influence on the nervous system.

Cichorium (Chicory) for indigestion: a bitter action on liver & gall bladder.

Gentiana lutea (Gentian) a well-known bitter, which stimulates the nerve endings of the tongue and cause a reflex stimulation of saliva and gastric secretions.

Taraxacum (Dandelion) the bitter constituents stimulate the kidney and the secretion of liver bile which increases the digestive potential. The liver is therefore better able to detoxify the blood.
