Whether apparent or not, I jump on far fewer folk art wooden cutout animals than I once did; I've seen a lot of them by this point, so it takes what I consider a really good one to win me--which I think this guy is. With tar-like black paint giving him a very excellent face and very strong graphic appeal--and his back side painted with equal specificity (and the edges of the wood painted too.) And through the creamy white paint of this body one can see some of printed text on the wood, and on the underside of the base; revealing him as made of scrap crate wood. This excellent old mend to a split in the wood too, original to him. Perfect scale, excellent thing. 

12 1/2" t x 11" w x 4 1/4" d (base.) Great condition, perfectly aged, c. 1920s-30s I would guess, with original repair to the split at its rear, very much to the good.
