The genus Alocasia belongs to the Araceae family and is closely related to genera such as Colocasia and Xanthosoma. ‘Tigrina Superba’ is considered a selected form or cultivar of Alocasia zebrina, chosen for its especially bold stem markings and strong growth habit.

Light
Prefers bright, indirect light. A position close to an east or north facing window is ideal. It can tolerate a little gentle morning sun, but harsh direct sunlight may scorch the leaves. Too little light can lead to slower growth and weaker stems.

Water
Keep the soil lightly moist during the growing season, allowing the top few centimetres of soil to dry slightly between waterings. Reduce watering in autumn and winter when growth slows. Avoid leaving the plant sitting in water, as Alocasias are prone to root rot if kept too wet.

Humidity
Thrives in higher humidity and will appreciate levels above 60% where possible. Bathrooms, kitchens, terrariums, or rooms with a humidifier can work well. Crisp leaf edges are often a sign that the air is too dry.

Soil
Use a chunky, well-draining aroid mix containing ingredients such as bark, perlite, coir, and potting compost. Good airflow around the roots is essential. Repot every 1–2 years during spring if the plant becomes rootbound.
