In Zuni Pueblo culture (Western New Mexico) the owl --or "Night Grandfather”--is perceived as the protector of the home and keeper of the night, able to see what others cannot. There is a long tradition of Zuni earthenware owl fetishes; this is quite an old one--dating sometime between the late 19th century and the 1920s--and quite a wonderful one, I think.
2 7/8" t x 2 3/8" w x 2 1/8" d. Overall good condition, showing wear and age and paint loss, which just makes me like it all the more, but with no notable chips or cracks at all that I can see.
