Four jobs. Four substrates. One primer. Achieve reliable adhesion across diverse construction materials, from porous concrete to non-porous ceramic tiles. Everflex Multi-Prime delivers the consistent bond required for waterproofing membranes, self-levelling compounds, tile adhesives, and grouts, keeping your project on schedule and preventing costly delamination.
Why this product exists
Adhesion failure is preventable. Everflex Multi-Prime was engineered to eliminate bond issues for critical build-ups. This high-performance, water-based acrylic primer promotes superior adhesion for subsequent finishes on both porous and non-porous substrates. It creates a robust, uniform surface, ensuring your waterproofing, levelling, or tiling system performs as specified without compromise.
The numbers that matter
A coverage rate of 5 to 10m² per litre means fewer drums on site and efficient project planning. This variation accounts for substrate porosity, allowing you to tailor application for optimal adhesion without waste. The one-hour cure time (at 23°C to a translucent film) means you can prime and proceed with subsequent layers rapidly, significantly reducing downtime. Beyond performance, its low VOC formulation meets 'green star' environmental criteria, supporting healthier indoor air quality and compliant project specifications.
What it's like to use
Proper surface preparation is paramount. Ensure all surfaces are structurally sound, dry, and free of contaminants like dust, oil, or curing compounds. For porous substrates, dilute Everflex Multi-Prime 1:2 with clean water and apply until the surface remains wet for two minutes; exceptionally porous surfaces may require a second, more diluted coat (1:3). For non-porous substrates, apply the primer neat (undiluted) for a uniform, even layer. If you're unsure whether a substrate is porous or non-porous, place a $1 coin-sized puddle of water on the surface: if it absorbs in less than two minutes, it's porous. For porous applications, Everflex Primer WBP provides an alternative. Tools and fresh spills clean easily with water. Once cured, mechanical removal is necessary.
Where this product excels
- Wet areas: Achieve a critical bond for waterproofing membranes in bathrooms, showers, laundries, and kitchens. It ensures subsequent layers adhere securely, forming a robust barrier against moisture.
- Roofing systems: Prime concrete roofs or membrane-covered tiled surfaces, preparing them for resilient, trafficable membranes. This establishes the foundational adhesion required for long-term weather resistance.
- Civil and structural applications: On retaining walls, lift pits, and other civil structures, Multi-Prime serves as the essential primer for waterproofing, protecting against moisture ingress in demanding environments.
How it fits in a real system
Everflex Multi-Prime typically serves as the critical first step in many complex build-ups, establishing the bond for subsequent layers. In wet area waterproofing for bathrooms or laundries, apply Multi-Prime directly to the prepared substrate before your chosen waterproofing membrane and tile adhesive. For exposed trafficable concrete roofs with plant areas, apply Multi-Prime after the initial Everflex VBS vapour barrier, ensuring the robust adhesion of the Everflex WPUV membrane and trafficable Gripset LS topcoat. In lift pits and retaining walls, Multi-Prime prepares the surface for heavy-duty systems like Gripset 2P, often finished with Adheseal PU25 Polyurethane Sealant.
Choose this when
- When you require a single, versatile primer for both porous and non-porous substrates, simplifying material selection on site.
- When preparing surfaces for waterproofing membranes, self-levelling compounds, tile adhesives, or grouts in wet areas, roofing, or civil structures.
- When project timelines demand a fast-drying primer to maintain workflow and accelerate subsequent application stages.
- When specifying for internal or external applications where low VOC and environmental criteria are a priority.
Don't use this when
- Not for: Application when ambient or substrate temperatures are outside the 10°C to 35°C range.
- Not for: Direct, long-term UV exposure. The primer is not UV stable and must be overcoated for durability.
- Not for: Damp, wet, or contaminated substrates, or areas subject to hydrostatic pressure or rising damp. For these conditions, consider an alternative like Everflex VBS.
- Not for: Directly on ceramic tiles with a high gloss coating, as adhesion may be compromised without prior abrasion.
- Not for: Unprotected foot traffic. This is a primer layer, not a wear surface.
