I've never bought a neon sign before, but I spotted this old one, long since detached from a power source, in an antiques shop in MA on my way home from Brimfield, and fell in love with it exactly, precisely as it is, unplugged and unlit. I love the fact of a "glasses fitted" sign being made of glass, making it in many senses all about its materiality. And, unlit, and uncolored, the delicate, rather miraculous nature of the glass tubing, and manipulation if it to form the letters, one leading into the next, feels all the more pronounced. A line drawing in glass. Barely there but also emphatically present as an object. To my eye and sensibilities quite a beautiful thing.

29 1/4" l x 13 1/4" t (12 3/4" from top to bottom edge of lettering.) Good condition, no chips or breaks. I wiped it down with a cloth to remove a layer of dust that had accumulated mostly on the reverse side. There is still wire running inside the letters but I have no idea whether it could be made to work again.
