A striking antique brass trinket box or jewellery casket, richly decorated with five polished banded agate cabochons mounted within ornate cast mounts. The warm brass body is enhanced by elegant scrolling decoration and the dramatic natural agates, creating a piece with considerable decorative presence.

The rectangular form is raised on a moulded plinth base and opens to reveal its original lilac silk-lined interior. The combination of polished agate and gilded brass reflects the fascination with natural hardstones and decorative metalwork popular during the late Victorian and Edwardian periods.

The banded agates display attractive natural striping in shades of deep brown, cream and black, providing a beautiful contrast against the mellow brass finish. Equally suitable as a jewellery casket, keepsake box or decorative object, it makes a distinctive addition to a dressing table, desk or cabinet.

The interior silk lining shows age-related wear and deterioration, including fraying and staining, as photographed. The exterior remains in attractive condition with a pleasing aged patina and minor wear consistent with age and use.
