Leaking wet areas mean costly callbacks. When compliant, under-tile waterproofing is critical for bathrooms, laundries, or external balconies, you need a system that performs. Everflex Aqua-Ban provides that assurance: a reliable, Class III elastomeric membrane, ready for tiling, that simply locks water out.

Why this product exists

Everflex Aqua-Ban was formulated to be your compliant, water-based, and rapid-drying Class III elastomeric membrane. It creates a robust, seamless barrier specifically for under-tile applications, ensuring a reliable and straightforward waterproofing solution for your internal and external wet areas.

The numbers that matter

  • **Class III Elongation (391% to AS4858):** This flexibility allows the membrane to bridge minor substrate cracks and accommodate the natural movement of buildings, preventing the film from tearing and maintaining a watertight seal under your tiles.
  • **Low VOC (<1 g/L):** Meeting Green Star environmental criteria, this ensures the membrane is non-toxic and low odour, making it suitable for internal applications without compromising indoor air quality.
  • **Water-based formula:** Not only does this simplify cleanup with water while the product is wet, but it also means the membrane is non-flammable and safer to work with on site compared to solvent-based alternatives.
  • **Resistant to cracking (AS 3848 Pass):** Rigorous testing confirms no fatigue cracking, even under stress, meaning Everflex Aqua-Ban delivers long-term durability and integrity, keeping the waterproofing barrier intact for the life of your tiled finish.

What it's like to use

This is a single-component, ready-to-use membrane. Always mix Everflex Aqua-Ban thoroughly before application. Apply with a brush or roller in two coats at right angles to each other. Maintain an application temperature between 10 °C and 35 °C. You can typically recoat within 2 to 4 hours after touch-dry, with tiling possible after 48 hours of cure time. Ensure the substrate is primed correctly; use Everflex Primer WBP for internal areas or Everflex VBS Bitumen Primer for external applications.

For waste outlets and waterstops, seal all gaps and perimeters with Adheseal PU or Hi-Flex MS sealant. Form fillets at internal corners using these same sealants or a suitable bond breaker. For added protection over corners and joints, saturate polyester reinforcing fabric into the first coat of membrane.

Where this product excels

  • **Balconies, podiums, and flashings:** As the primary under-tile membrane, it prevents water ingress into the building structure, providing a durable base for subsequent tiling.
  • **Wet areas — bathrooms, showers, laundries, kitchens:** Ideal for NCC-compliant waterproofing under ceramic or stone tiles, ensuring a seamless, watertight envelope against moisture penetration.
  • **Tiled roofing:** Provides a robust membrane layer for concrete roofs that will be tiled, forming a critical barrier beneath the finish.

How it fits in a real system

Everflex Aqua-Ban typically follows a suitable primer on prepared and cured substrates. It forms the primary waterproof layer, applied in a minimum of two coats. Once cured for 48 hours, the membrane is ready for tiling using compatible tile adhesives like Gripset C-Lite or RLA Unigrip. The system is then completed with a sanitary silicone sealant such as Adheseal S100 Sanitary Silicone Sealant to seal all joints and perimeters.

Choose this when

  • When you need an NCC-compliant Class III elastomeric membrane for under-tile applications.
  • For waterproofing internal wet areas like bathrooms, laundries, and kitchens.
  • To waterproof external above-ground tiled areas such as balconies, patios, and terraces.
  • When you require a rapid-drying, water-based solution with low VOC and easy cleanup.

Don't use this when

  • Not for: Exposed applications or areas subject to long-term UV exposure; it must be tiled or topped.
  • Not for: Areas with negative hydrostatic pressure or rising damp.
  • Not for: Application when temperatures are below 10 °C or above 35 °C.
  • Not for: Direct foot traffic without adequate protection, such as tiling.

Everflex Aqua-Ban is tested in accordance with NCC to AS-4858:2004 and AS4654.1 standards. This ensures compliance for internal and external under-tile applications, providing confidence in its performance and regulatory adherence. Its low VOC content also meets Green Star environmental criteria.
