During the 1920's many African American entertainers travelled to France to follow their dreams free from the prejudice they experienced in their homeland. Josephine Baker (1906-1975) is probably the most celebrated of these performers - singer, actress, dancer, burlesque - one of the first Folies Bergeres women became a instant hit with her famed ‘banana skirt’.
This poster was for what ended to be Baker’s final performance, a revue highlighting all her past works. Financed by the Monaco Royal family it received rave reviews with opening night being performed to an audience filled with the idols of the day.
Please Note; This poster is currently off-linen. It is in excellent condition, but like many entertainment and movie posters it has fold-lines which will not be as noticeable once the conservation linen-backing is complete. The listed price takes into account the archival work, please leave a 5 week turnaround for completion.
