The Burnham 51 was made from the mid 1940s, this version in multi coloured marble and with a 14Ct. Gold nib dates from around 1950.
The pen has been fully restored and tested and is in excellent condition. It has a good shine and a very clear and crisp barrel imprint. The gold filling on the lever and cap band have held up well, the clip less so, but it still has a very bright, lustrous finish.
The colour, a mix dark and light burgundy with pearl grey, is unusual and extremely attractive.
The cap is a very smooth and secure screw fit, tightening with one and a quarter turns. The cowled clip is retained by a peaked cap stud, it is this that helps date the pen as an early 50s version.
The pen measures 12cm. capped but when posted it is a very comfortable and well balanced 14.5cm. in length. The 14Ct. Gold Burnham nib is a gem, it writes with a smooth, medium line and a good amount of flex.
