Beautiful deadstock wool knit Chanel-style skirt suit that was made in France in the 1960s. This suit was purchased from a woman who owned a Manhattan boutique. She had clothing made by the same tailors and ateliers that French haute couture houses were using, which is why this skirt suit has such a distinctive look! This suit was designed with the working woman in mind, who needed to look sophisticated, confident and have an air of armour when working alongside men. 

It's made from a thick knit beige yarn, with a lovely nubby texture. The jacket has raglan sleeves, and a collarless, crewneck design with sweet buttons down the front that are capped with metal filigree gold flowers. There are four front pockets that are trimmed in contrasting white and beige stripes to match the front placket, sleeves and hem. The sleeves feature two decorative buttons as well. The skirt is a fitted pencil skirt with a thin twill waistband, and zips up on the side with a metal zipper.

CONDITION: Very good. This suit is deadstock and was never worn. The elastic waistband has lost some of its elasticity and the fabric sheds a little. 

It was bought from a woman who had a boutique in Manhattan where she had suits made at the same ateliers that French haute couture houses were using.
