Propagandhi formed in 1986 in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba, Canada and are now based in Winnipeg. Their outspoken influence and consistency in anti-fascist, animal-friendly, gay-positive, and pro-feminist ideas have inspired thousands of hardcore, thrash metal and punk rock music fans across four decades.

Unscripted Moments: A Podcast About Propagandhi began in 2020 as a fan-made song-by-song podcast exploring each release by the band. The podcast also features bonus episodes about touring, recording and more with friends, fans and collaborators from throughout the bands musical career.

Among the hundreds of episodes about the band's music are more than fifteen hours of candid interviews with past and present members of Propagandhi recorded between 2020 and 2025. The conversations vary widely in topic and discuss songwriting, touring stories, favourite cover songs and side projects, as well as personal hobbies and interests of the band members. These edited interviews with Chris Hannah, Jord Samolesky, John Samson Fellows,

Todd Kowalski, David Guillas, and Sulynn Hago span the career of the band from their earliest demos through to the recording of their eighth album, At Peace, released in May 2025.

Propagandhi has released music with G7 Welcoming Committee, Recess Records, Fat Wreck Chords, and Epitaph Records. The 200+ episodes of Unscripted Moments: A Podcast About Propagandhi have been downloaded more than half a million times and are available to stream everywhere podcasts are available.

About the author:

Greg Soden is the host of ‘Unscripted Moments: A Podcast About Propagandhi’ and a super-fan of the band, with whom he worked to put together this book of candid conversations over the last five years. The not-for-profit podcast has over two hundred episodes that have been downloaded almost half a million times by fellow Propagandhi fans. Transcribing some of these interviews was a little challenging but the result is an authentic look into the heart and soul of a hard-working HC band whose message is more than just their undeniably great music.

As well as being a lifelong Propagandhi fan, Greg is a father, partner, teacher, and cyclist. He is originally from Missouri, USA but has travelled and lived all over, including the UK, Mexico and Canada. He now resides in Buffalo, New York, where he roots for the Buffalo Bills.

Fans comments:

Propagandhi is the only band I know that has always stayed true to their values, and to combine that with incredible songwriting and musicianship -what a force to be reckoned with!
- Jenn Fiorentino, songwriter and musician

It is SO awkward to explain to new friends, as an adult, that your favourite bands have been the same for 30 years. It is even harder to explain that one of those bands has grown in lyrical and musical maturity for the whole time. Unscripted Moments, over the course of 200+ episodes, has let me know that I am not alone in that awkwardness.

- Josh Lindley- Co-Host of Last Believer a Podcast about Good Riddance.

Propagandhi is my favourite band and Greg is my favourite podcast host. A thoughtful, we’ll researched interviewer, Greg gets to the heart of what makes Propagandhi such a great band: the tunes, the lyrics, the message, the influences, and the hosers who make it all happen.

- Sheldon Birnie, Winnipeg, MB

"Within every Propagandhi song lies an entire world waiting to be unpacked. Whether it be a funny story, some complex political theory, or a much needed history lesson. Someone could devote hours to every song explaining these details. That someone is Greg Soden and the place is his podcast Unscripted Moments. This book is perfect for those of us that prefer to read these Propagandhi songs deep dive and study these complex worlds. No stone is left unturned."

- Aaron Carnes, author of In Defense of Ska

Propagandhi has been a life-changing band for many listeners, who for the first time were exposed to processes and ideas such as imperialism, veganism, and feminism, all set to an intricately melodic thrash-punk soundtrack. For years, Greg Soden has spotlighted Propagandhi's catalog and engaged with their members. This collection is a must for any Propagandhi fan.

- Tim Gill, Ph.D

"When I first heard Propagandhi back in 1993, I was immediately impressed by their intense message and social commentary. I was impacted by their ability to dig into, describe, and simplify the complexities of social, religious, and political concepts in such an endearing package- utilizing music, humor, and human angst. I was hooked! I wanted to find my voice in music. I wanted to learn more about the world! Thirty years later- I've had the privilege to work with the band co-producing their last three albums- something I would never have imagined doing as a sixteen-year-old superfan! Propagandhi continues to distill our world in their unique way. As we enter into an even more perilous global landscape, I believe that the messages delivered by the band have only become more immediate and poignant. Greg Soden has done a fantastic job encapsulating the lore and perspectives surrounding Propagandhi through this carefully curated documentation of his interviews with the band members and associates."

- John Paul Peters, Private Ear Recording

“Propagandhi is a band that rewards close, repeat listening, and Unscripted Moments takes that to the logical extreme. It’s the deepest possible dive into the work of a band that makes you think, hope, rage... and sometimes even bawl your goddamn eyes out.”

- Sam Thompson, Witchpolice Radio

To say that this book (and its namesake podcast) is a labour of love, shortchanges both the concepts of labour and love. Simply put, what Greg has done here is equal parts stunning, heartfelt, and insane. Sure, this is essentially a collection of conversations with a fantastic band, but between the lines, this book is an in depth examination of the unbreakable bond between art and audience.

- Mitch Pollock, producer of CBC's Q with Tom Power

Propagandhi have been my role models in the punk and metal world for over 25 years. They’re the only band I’ve consistently followed for that long because they never compromise their values or musical integrity. They continually knock it out of the park with each record and live show I've seen. They set an example that continues to be a major inspiration.

- Tim Macmillar, Protest the Hero.
