Citrus pennivesiculata, commonly known as Pickle Lime or Giant Bitter Lemon (Karinaranga), is a unique citrus variety native to South India, particularly Kerala. Locally called Vadukapuli Naranga, this large, round lemon is well known for its distinctive bitter-sour taste and is widely used in traditional South Indian cuisine.
The fruits are much larger than common lemons, with a thick rind and a strong citrus aroma. Their intense flavor makes them ideal for pickling, culinary preparations, and Ayurvedic remedies. The tree itself is hardy, evergreen, and can grow up to 3–5 meters tall with dark green foliage and fragrant white blossom
